About Mike
Mike Dotterer. Tromboninst. Arranger. Pretty good percussionist. Not bad at piano.
I’ve been arranging professionally since the early 90s. Like many of my colleagues, it started with lending a hand with whatever horn section I was in at the time. I was fortunate to learn quickly through a lot of immediate trial and error. Years later, I started a brass quartet. Unhappy with the secular repertoire available for a typical brass quartet, I started writing a number of our arrangements. Again, immediate trial and error feedback was invaluable. From there, I realized some of the brass arrangements also worked for other ensembles as well.
Currently, I’m on staff for arranging custom “Big Band” charts for a Community College. Big Band is in quotes becasue some semesters it’s four wind instruments and rhythm section, other times it’s 15 wind instruments, a couple of strings, and rhythm section. I’m also a partner of Trim’s Tunes which specializes in ready to go horn section arrangements.
Most of the arrangements here are for brass, but they can easily be modified for other ensembles (contact me). Because of Copyrights, most of them are actually sold through websites like SheetMusicPlus, SheetMusicDirect or Musescore.
Have a custom project or unusual instrumentation? Contact me to see if I can help. Thanks to the internet, I can say I’ve literally arranged music for people, groups, and ensembles all over the world.
Mike’s Favorites
I know. It’s probably weird to have favorites, but I do. And, they change from time to time.
